Spotted gum & angophora — beautiful, and prone to limb drop.

The Terrigal, Wamberal and Avoca ridgelines are dominated by mature spotted gum (Corymbia maculata) and Sydney red gum / angophora (Angophora costata) — the trees that give the coast its character. Both are also notorious for sudden limb failure, angophora especially, which sheds heavy limbs even in still, hot weather. Add the constant salt-laden sea wind that stresses the canopy, and managing these trees is about reading which limbs are a genuine risk and reducing weight correctly — not just cutting. We assess structure, then deadwood and thin to AS 4373.

View-line pruning — done so it lasts.

On Terrigal's elevated blocks the ocean or lagoon view is half the value of the house, and a grown-out canopy steadily swallows it. We do view-line and crown-reduction pruning to open the outlook and let light back in — at correct cut points so the tree stays healthy and the work lasts, rather than topping it (which triggers a denser, faster regrowth that closes the view back over within a couple of seasons). Where a protected tree is involved we'll confirm whether the work is exempt or needs a Central Coast Council Private Tree Works approval first.

When a coastal gum is dead, dangerous or genuinely too big for the spot, we remove it — sectional dismantling on the tight, sloping blocks common around Terrigal and Avoca. And when an East Coast Low rolls through, the exposed coastal ridgelines cop the worst of it, so we run 24/7 storm response for fallen limbs and trees on homes and across driveways.
